Inside South Coast Plaza next to the entrance at Saks, there is a mysterious door that seems to lead to a closed down shop. The raised lettering of “Access” adorns the wall next to the door. I’ve walked past this door countless times, and today, I finally discovered what was behind it – the South Coast Plaza VIP Access Lounge. It’s a great place to sit and relax after a long day of shopping and jostling with the crazy throng of holiday shoppers. Drinks (including alcohol!) and snacks are complimentary, and you get to lounge on super-plush sofas either in the open lobby area or in private rooms, on a first-come-first-serve basis. We managed to snag a private room, away from the lobby chatter, so that was nice!

How does one get access to Access, you ask? Some of the stores at South Coast Plaza will grant you an access card, depending on how much you spend. Also, if you’re a holder of American Express Platinum or Visa Signature, you should be able to get an access card too!

Every guest, upon leaving the party, received a traditional Lunar Year red envelope that contained a $2 bill and vouchers for valet parking and access to the shopping center’s VIP lounge. […]
