Imagine having to wear suit pieces in 90+ degree weather! Some people can tolerate it (and I applaud them!), but seeing as I can’t even think about layering in hot temperatures, I must say I’m so glad I don’t work in a corporate setting.
True, some of us have air conditioning to help us out, but that little gift doesn’t cover times such as lunch breaks and walking to/from cars. And to make the summer heat worse, the working environment does not exactly allow summer-friendly apparel such as denim cut-offs and muscle tanks, and there lies the difficulty in dressing to accommodate the heat while still maintaining office appropriateness. But, if you’re like me and are not restricted to a certain uniform, you may find solace in realizing that lightweight dresses are the answer to the summer office attire conundrum!
This dress is the perfect “throw it on and go” item for summer (or any hot day, really). The length makes it appropriate for work, and the lightweight cotton fabric allows air to pass through. Similar to the also-appropriate shift dress style (love this, this, and this), the loose fit offers great comfort while the subtle structured shape upholds a polished look. It’s also conveniently versatile, allowing you to easily switch from office to casual evening with a quick swap of footwear, mainly because with such a simple dress, shoes play a huge and magical role. Here, I opted for plain but timeless black patent pumps (3.5″ and under heels are most ideal for the work environment) from Cole Haan to finish off the look. Comfortable, stylish, lightweight, and work-appropriate.
