It’s true; flared jeans really are making a definite comeback!

I will always have a soft spot for flared jeans; they were pretty much all I ever wore throughout middle school and high school and I was sort of disappointed when the skinny jean started trending, pushing the flares right out of style. If I remember correctly, it was all the craze back then to wear “bell-bottom” jeans that were much too long so that they would drag on the ground and create ripped hems. I’ll always recall this one particular summer when I wore my favorite super-flared jeans to Taiwan. These jeans had the perfect ripped hemline, but one day upon arriving back to my grandparents’ house after a long day of shopping, I discovered that not only did my grandmother put my jeans in the laundry, but she had also cut away the ripped threads and had cleanly sewn the hem back together! I was devastated! Not only were my jeans too short to trail on the streets, but they were also missing that special ripped look (I know; I was such a brat)!

While that may have been the trend back then, nowadays I prefer my flared hems to be clean and paired with some sort of heel for a complete elevated look. Flared jeans have that great illusion of elongating your silhouette, and pairing flats or sneakers with them would just be insulting to the effect. The trick is to find a shoe that features a little lift but is comfortable enough to wear all day. Think of chunky heels (ex: Dolce Vita ‘Leka’), heeled lace-up shoes (ex: Barney’s Lace-Up Bootie), polished booties (ex: Via Spiga ‘Nessa 2’), supportive platforms (ex: Michael Kors ‘Beatrice’), and wedges (ex: Jeffrey Campbell Peaks Point), just to name a few possibilities. Not only will these footwear give you the lift you need in your flared jeans, but they will also easily transition as we head into warmer weather.

Other flared jeans I’m currently loving:
Express Mid-Rise Flare Jean / J Brand Love Story Jeans / Hudson Angel Flared Jeans
Anthropologie Pilcro Stet Jeans / Free People Kick Flare Jeans / Free People Super Flare Jeans

If you’re like me and have been holding on to your old flared denim, now would be a great time to take them out and let them have their fun! I’ve actually been browsing a bit online for new pairs I can add to my tiny existing collection, and I’m thinking of trying them out in white and bring back my love for super-flare styles.

Are you embracing the flares? If so, I’d love to hear your favorite washes/silhouettes and how you style them!

Have a great rest of your Wednesday (Happy April!!)! Thank you so much for reading!
