Last night was all abuzz with excitement from one of the biggest and boldest events on the fashion calendar – the Met Gala 2015.

Hosted by Silas Chou with Jennifer Lawrence, Gong Li, Marissa Mayer, Wendi Murdoch and Anna Wintour acting as co-chairs, last night’s celebrity-packed gala celebrated “China: Through the Looking Glass,” the new Costume Institute exhibition drawing on more than a hundred couture and avant-garde samplings from various prominent designers from John Galliano to Alexander McQueen to explore the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion (you can read more about the exhibit here).

But let’s not forget the real focus of last night for most people. While A-list celebrities and supermodels graced the red carpet, mere mortals such as you and I fawned over their choice of attire. The color red seemed to be a recurring theme, and although most of the gala-attendees smartly avoided styles that could be criticized for cultural appropriations, a handful bravely embraced the theme with their elaborate couture gowns (namely, Rihanna and Sarah Jessica Parker, who channeled every bit of their inner Chinese Empresses). Below, I’ve put together my favorite looks of last night’s Met Gala 2015. Did you tune in to the frenzy? What were some of your highlights?

1Gigi Hadid in DVF / Rosie Huntington Whiteley in Atelier Versace / Vanessa Hudgens in H&M
Diane Kruger in Chanel / Poppy Delevingne in Marchesa / Maggie Q in Tory Burch

Miranda Kerr in Louis Vuitton / Zendaya in Fausto Puglisi / Sarah Jessica Parker in H&M (Philip Treacy headpiece)
Kate Hudson in Michael Kors / Rihanna in Guo Pei / Amal Clooney in John Galliano for Maison Margiela
