HOME AWAY FROM HOME: 4TH OF JULY STAYCATION

Good morning, and a happy Wednesday!

While it’s still fresh in my mind, here’s the little photo-journal recap of my 4th of July holiday weekend that I wanted to share with you all! This particular weekend is always massively popular for little weekend getaway trips to Las Vegas, wine country, or the Hamptons, and seeing as summertime is the peak season for traveling (and prices therefore skyrocket), H and I decided to keep it low-key. We wanted to get out of our suburban funk to recharge and glean new energy and inspiration from a big city’s people, architecture, and food, so we booked a suite at the beautiful W Los Angeles for a mini-staycation! Here’s my first recommendation today: if in doubt, book the Fabulous Suite. With two bedrooms and a separate living room, it’s cozy yet delightfully spacious, furnished with modern chic pieces, and offers a breathtaking view of the city. The hotel itself is tucked away in a residential area right by the UCLA campus, so you get close access (you obviously still need a car, or Uber, but that’s a given since car transportation is a frustrating necessity in Los Angeles) to all the city spots without all the city noise.

Because H and I live close enough that we have escaped to the city streets of LA numerous times in the past and thus have hit up most of the usual sight-seeing spots, we decided to devote this weekend to eating. So eat we did! We wolfed down the Fairfax at Eggslut (not pictured), swooned over gelato at Gelateria Uli (we got the flavors Bee Pollen, Espresso, and Snow Queen), demolished our ramen and tsukemen bowls at Tsujita LA Artisan Noodle (not pictured), got our boba milk tea fix at Volcano Tea House, brunched at the super cute Amandine Patisserie, found our new favorite tea latte place at Undergrind Cafe (get the Purple Rain lavender latte and the Green Dragon green tea latte – they are amazing and I’m STILL dreaming about them!), and then walked off all those calories on Rodeo Drive and Barney’s New York. It was one short heck of a weekend, and we came home with extreme weekend/big city withdrawals.

As I’m re-reading what I just wrote, it hit me that it may sound like I live in the countryside or something of the equivalent, but I assure you that I don’t! As safe, clean, beautiful, and wealthy the suburbia may be, it’s just draining and stunting in the long-term because everything is the same and personality is practically flat. Even if you don’t live in the suburbs, I highly recommend escaping once in a while to breathe some new air and channel new energy! It doesn’t even have to be a costly trip… you’d be surprised how refreshing a mini-staycation can be!

Already thinking ahead to my next little trip…
