Well, this is it! I’m all moved and settled (for the most part) in my new home in New York City. Coming from Los Angeles where there really is no such thing as a real winter, I was freezing my face off during my first couple of days here… and then, as you might have heard, the crazy snowstorm Jonas hit the east coast, almost breaking record for the largest New York snowstorm by dropping over two feet of snow in the city. It may have looked pretty in photos, but trust me, it was a real pain in the you-know-what.
This set of photos was the last that H was able to do for me before he flew back to California (major THANK YOU for helping me move across the country!). By the time we took these shots, we both had somewhat adjusted to the NY temperatures and learned to layer warmly with the clothes we had. Due to lack of available luggage space on my flight here, I had to ship half of my wardrobe over which are still in transit, and upon arrival I somehow ended up with literally only one coat and one scarf which I had to wear everyday (and before you ask, I’m trying not to buy any new clothes for a couple of weeks at least…). To mix it up, I decided to copy the look of a faux fur shawl collar coat, like this gorgeous long coat (similar and more budget-friendly styles here, here, and here), a look that was easily achieved by layering my boucle wool coat over my fur collar suede vest and popping the collar out. Bonus points – because the fur collar is so posh and fluffy, it also doubled as a scarf, keeping my chest and neck toasty! Little accents like a fur collar easily add nuance to a run-of-the-mill coat, elevating its chic level while maintaining a timeless appeal.
As always, thank you so much for reading! It’s been very interesting and challenging crafting my daily wardrobe choices to match the weather here, and I plan on sharing more sartorial tips and tricks to counter New York winter with you as I learn them myself! In the meantime, you can follow along on Instagram as I will be posting lots of content there too. Happy Wednesday!
